SafetyWing review: who it’s really for.
SafetyWing sells 2 kinds of cover. Nomad Insurance (Essential or Complete) is for people on the move. Remote Health is full health insurance, built for remote teams. Here is what each one really covers.
Ankyro may earn a commission if you buy from SafetyWing. It never changes the verdict.
Essential is a fair, cheap pick for healthy nomads under 70 who want emergency cover and nothing more. Complete and Remote Health cost far more, so compare them with other expat plans before you buy. Skip SafetyWing if you have a health problem you need covered, or if you need routine care in the US.
- Good for
Healthy nomads under 70 who move often and want cheap cover for accidents and sudden illness.
- Not for
People with a health condition, people who live in the US, and expats who want routine care in 1 country.

Good and bad
What we like, and what we don’t.
- The good
- Essential is one of the cheapest ways to get emergency cover abroad, with no deductible.
- Essential renews by itself every 4 weeks, so you can stop it when your trip ends.
- Complete and Remote Health give high limits and full cover in your country of residence.
- Claims are done online, with receipts uploaded in the dashboard.
- The bad
- Essential caps total cover at USD 250,000, low for a serious case in a costly country.
- No plan covers pre-existing conditions for individuals, and Complete looks back over your whole life.
- US cover is thin: Essential needs an add-on with co-pays, Complete gives 30 days.
- Essential only covers 30 days in your home country for every 90 days abroad.
